De
sjamanen trommel
Sjamanendrums
zijn grote platte ronde- of ovale drums
waar afbeeldingen op kunnen staan van de totemdieren of spirithelpers van de
Sjamaan of andere symbolen die hem bijstaan tijdens zijn trancereis. De drum
is vaak behangen
met krachtvoorwerpen, zoals metalen ringen en belletjes,
die de
energie uit de andere realiteit vasthoudt.
Het handvat waar
de Sjamaan de
drum mee vasthoudt moet worden beschouwd als de geest van de drum en is meestal versierd met veren en stroken leer. De
drum is voor de
Sjamaan zijn vervoermiddel naar de andere realiteit en
het is, net
als de ratel, een magisch- en ritueel voorwerp.

The shaman drum
A
shamandrum is a large flat hooped or ovalshaped drum
with images of
totem animals, sprithelpers or other symbols.
The
opening in the crosspiece symbolizes the entrance into
the mythical
shamanic worlds. The
drum is covered by the
hide of, for
instance, a
wild reindeer.
Rings
with pendants attached to the inner side of the rim
are
helper spirits of the shaman. Slight
projections on the
cover along the upper side of the rim are resonators
and symbolize the ears of the totem
animal or spirithelper.
These totem animals or spirithelpers assists the
shaman
during his trance
journey. Stretched hide is decorated with
colored beads. During
shamanic rituals the drum symbolizes
the means of
conveyance of the shaman through the worlds.
